Tobermory Distillery is beautifully located on the Inner Hebridean island of Mull. It was founded in 1798 but became fully operational in 1823. Its name derives from the Gaelic ‘Tobar Mhoire’ meaning Mary’s Well. In ancient times a well dedicated to Virgin Mary was located at settlement of Tobermory, now capital (population about 900 souls) of the Isle of Mull. Since 1993 the distillery has been owned by Burn Stewart Distillers and produces roughly 750 000 liters of spirit per annum running at 75% of its capacity. The 10 years old expression bottled at 40% abv was part of the range until 2010, when it was replaced with another 10 years old bottled at 46.3% abv and unchill-filtered.
Nose: sea breeze with fading hints of smoke, seaweed, green olives, moist hay, touches of vanilla and cotton candy.
Palate: light, malty and nutty, slightly oily, seaweed salad, cooked apples, hints of vanilla and toffee and just a pinch of salt.
Finish: not too long, peppery and salty with touch of oak.
