Speyburn Distillery was founded in 1897 and since 1991 has been owned by Inver House Distillers, which in turn is part of the conglomerate Thai Beverages plc. It is the largest distillery in the Inver House portfolio, after substantial expansion completed in 2015 its distilling capacity increased to 4.5 million liters of spirit per annum. Speyburn malt is a main component of Inver House blends including Catto’s, Hankey Bannister and Inver House Green Plaid. Here we have a young expression of Speyburn, part of the Clan Denny range, whisky distilled in September 2008 and aged in refill hogshead no. 12068. Bottled at 48% abv and without chill-filtration in August 2017 with an outrun of 407 bottles.
Nose: fresh and malty, porridge, vanilla, brown sugar, apple blossom, quince jelly, dash of pepper and oak shavings.
Palate: breakfast cereals, toasted bread, toffee, vanilla, caramel, hints of ginger and pepper, traces of hay and oak.
Finish: medium long, sweet cereals, bread crust, orange zest and hint of vanilla.
